The latest addition to my website is Iliya Troyanov‘s Der Eistau (The Lamentations of Zeno). Zeno Hintermeier is a guide on Antartic cruise. He used to teach geology, specialising in glaciers (he has adopted one in Germany) but things went wrong – messy divorce, unable to cope and his glacier shrinking. He is particularly concerned with the harmful impact humans have on the natural environment and, often to the annoyance of his colleagues, makes his views forcefully known. We can see that he is heading ever nearer to the precipice and when Dan Quentin, a Christo imitator who is creating a giant SOS sign with letters formed by the cruise passengers on an Antarctic island, he flips out. Both the environment concerns and Zeno’s mental health issues make for an excellent story,
